India's Reliance Industries starts crude production at KG-D6 block

Good Morning friends,
Today is Monday, day started with walk and prayer. I found following business news as excellent news because I am also share holder of Reliance Industries Ltd. Complete news is as under.

India's largest private sector company, Reliance Industries Ltd., said it began producing crude oil from its KG-D6 block of the Krishna Godavari Basin on Sept 17, confirming media reports.

Initial production levels are at 5,000 barrels of crude per day. Peak

hydrocarbon production of 550,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd) is expected over the next six to eight quarters, the company announced at a press event over the weekend.

'India's current hydrocarbon oil and gas production is 1.3 million boepd. With Reliance's contribution in the energy sector, India's indigenous production of hydrocarbons will increase by over 40 percent in the next 18 months,' chairman and managing director Mukesh Ambani told reporters.

The energy and petrochemicals major estimated that the production from KG-D6 facility will save India an annual foreign exchange outflow of $20 billion.

The KG-D6 block in Krishna Godavari basin is located in the Bay of Bengal, off the coast of eastern state of Andhra Pradesh. RIL holds 90 percent participating interest and Niko Resources Ltd. holds the balance.

P.M.S. Prasad, president and chief executive, oil & gas at RIL said Hindustan Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (HPCL) and Chennai Petroleum Corp. Ltd., have sent in bids for buying the crude. Prasad added the contracts with HPCL are likely to be more of spot contracts.

Prasad said: 'We will be going in a next few days to gas productionStarting from January we will be producing gas.'

Mukesh Ambani's RIL and Reliance Natural Resources Ltd. (RNRL), which is owned by estranged brother Anil Ambani, have been entangled in a legal battle which is centered on the pricing of gas from the KG Basin.

Shraddh or Pitru Paksha Shraddh

Good afternoon friends,
I am going out for lunch at my wife Kajal’s parent’s house. My father in law is died before few years. Today is his Shraddh. So, I and my family are suppose to go to their house and have to take lunch with them. You all might be curious to know what is shraddh? Shraddh is a ritualistic custom which is unique in the Hindu Religion. Shraddh is the annual rituals dedicated to dead parents, relative and ancestors. Little details about shrddh are below.

What is Shraddh?
Shradh is a ritualistic custom unique to the Hindu religion. The Hindu scriptures which include the Vedas and the Puranas like the Agni puran, Garud puran, Vayu puran etc. explain the significance of “shraddh”, for whom it should be performed, who performs it, when and how it should be done.

Pitr Paksh Shradh, or Pitru Paksha Shraddh, is the annual rituals dedicated to dead parents, relatives and ancestors that are performed in the Krishna Paksha (dark phase) of the Ashwin month in Hindi calendar and on Bhadrapad in other regional calendars. The Mahalaya Sharadh Pitru Paksh fortnight begins with Purnima in Ashwin month. It is believed that the Shradh performed during this period is highly auspicious as it reaches the dead relatives immediately and therefore their souls rest in peace.

In 2008, Pitru Paksha Shraddh begins on September 15 and ends on September 29 with Mahalaya Shradh. It must be noted here that Mahalaya Shradh begins in the afternoon on September 28 and ends on noon on September 29.

Pitr Paksh Shradh dataes are as follow.

  • Mahalaya Pitr Paksh Shradh begins on September 15, 2008 – Poornima Shradh
  • Pratipada and Dwitiya Shradh – September 16
  • Thritiya Shradh – September 17
  • Chaturthi Shradh – September 18
  • Panchami Shradh – September 19
  • Shasti Shradh – September 20
  • Saptami Shradh – September 21
  • Ashtami Shradh – September 22
  • Navami Shradh – September 23
  • Dashami Shradh – September 24
  • Ekadashi Shraddh – September 25
  • Dwadashi Shradh – September 26
  • Trayodashi Shradh – September 27
  • Chaturdashi Shradh – September 28
  • Mahalaya Shraddh Pitr Paksh ends - September 29 noon.

The most important date to perform Shraddh is the Mahalaya Shradh day. The rituals performed vary from region to region. But the essence and significance of the rituals are the same – remembering the dead parents and relatives and performing the sacred Shraddh rituals so that their souls rest in peace.

I need to go now. At home, all are waiting for me. we will talk more on Shraddh in next post.

Gujarat dist swamped, 4,000 evacuated

Good Evening friends, its little rain raining here. All over Gujarat it’s flooding, particularly Surendranagar district. A number of villages of Lakhtar, Patdi, Limdi, talukas is 5-6 feet deep water. Complete news is as under.

Following heavy rains in the last two days, the Surendranagar district is facing floods. A number of villages in the district have been marooned and more than 4,000 villagers have been evacuated to safer places. Meanwhile, the government machinery has been carrying out relief and rescue operations in the affected areas with the help of the Army, Ahmedabad and Rajkot fire brigade and SRP jawans. However, no casualty has been reported from the district.

A number of villages of Lakhtar, Limdi and Patdi talukas of the district were marooned in the flood and 5-6 feet deep water was seen in the villages. According to people, nearly 15 lakes and ponds in different villages in the district were breached with three important dams - Dholi Dhaja Dam, Naika Dam and Sukhbhadar Dam - overflowing, has only added to the already grim flood situation.

District collectorate officials said nearly 70 villages have been badly affected by the flood and 4,045 people have been shifted to safer places like government schools and panchayat buildings with food packets being distributed in the flood affected areas. Almost all the roads leading to the Surendranagar district were cut off from rest of the state owing to the inundation.

Chief Minister Narendra Modi sent two ministers - Raman Vora and Kirit Rana - to supervise the relief and rescue operations.

Surendranagar District Collector J D Bhad said, "Situation seems to be improving and under control at present."

Backless cholis bared even 500 yrs ago

Good Morning friends, today is September 19, 2008. Start my day with morning walk, as it’s raining here form last two days, my garden walking track spoiled. It’s all wet send there. I manage to walk. When I reach office and finish my routine prayer, I face power failure. Power restore in 50 minutes. Day started with routine work. I was reading timesofindia’s website and I read following article.

I like to let you all know that Gujarat is having 9 days Flok dance festival called Navaratri ( that’s nine nights ). I talk more on that in other post. In navratri, girls were suppose to wear traditional cholis and many girls love to wear backless cholis. Following article is with that backless cholis. Read it first.

During Navratri, when dancers are in a frenzy of garba or raas to pulsating music, backless cholis send the pulses of young men racing. Amdavadi girls wear them as a style statement — the more elaborately embroidered the better.

In fact, intricate jewellery and tattoos on the back accessorise these cholis and up the glamour quotient. Those who may disapprove of this garment thinking it’s provocative, will be surprised to know that women in Gujarat, particularly Ahmedabad, used to wear it 500 years ago!

Durate Barbosa, a Portuguese traveller wrote about the way Gujarati men and women dressed at that time. Describing the chaniya choli, he wrote, “This dress is silky and goes down to the feet. The jackets have narrow sleeves, open at shoulders.”

He goes on to describe the women, “They have large holes pierced in their ears and in them wear rings of gold or silver large enough for an egg to pass through.”
Other sources say cholis evolved as a form of clothing in the 10th century and then cholis covered only the front, leaving the back bare. Blouses of this type are still common in Rajasthan and some parts of Gujarat. But today, traditional cholis have become
highly stylised.

City-based designer Bhumika says, “Backless cholis were a traditional piece of fashion and we can find people wearing them in some pockets of Gujarat even today. Largely, the backless choli remains unchanged.”

A book on ‘Costumes and Ornaments of Chamba’ by Kamal Prasad Sharma and Surinder Mohan Sethi says, “Recorded example of the choli or blouse is found in pre-Mughal miniature paintings of Gujarat, but there was gradual adoption of choli in northern India. It is the first example of an upper garment for women. it covered only the front, the back being bare.’

Fed rescues AIG for USD 85 billion

Good Afternoon friends,
From last many days everyone was talking about AIG is going to be bankruptcy. India’s Tuesday night and america’s Tuesday morning , United States Government has agreed to a US$ 85 billion bailout for AIG.

We all are aware with the fact that AIG is Insurance company and is also working in india. In india AIG tied up with TATA and with TATA AIG Life and TATA AIG Insurance. TATA AIG is having all type of insurance in india including Life, Motor, Travel, Accident & Health, Business Property. They also have Mutual Funda and Retirement Services with their name in india. I read following news at PTI.

Fearing worldwide impact of collapse of American Insurance Group (AIG), the United States government has agreed to a USD 85 billion bailout that gives it control of the troubled insurance giant operating in 130 countries. The US Federal Reserve decided to bail out AIG hours after it decided to keep the benchmark bank rate unchanged at two per cent, despite hopes expressed by many financial experts that it would be slashed.

The federal government reversed its decision against intervention late Tuesday after it became clear that AIG was unable to get bank loan and would have to file for bankruptcy protection within hours, leading to major consequences and danger to the financial system. Only last week, the government had declined to support investment banker Lehman Brothers Holdings leading to it filing bankruptcy protection, but analysts say AIG was too big to be allowed to fail.

What frightened Fed and Treasury officials, the New York Times said, was not simply the prospect of another giant corporate bankruptcy, but AIG's role as an enormous provider of financial insurance to investors who bought complex debt securities. That effectively required AIG to cover losses suffered by buyers in the event of securities defaulted.

It meant AIG was potentially on the hook for billions of dollars worth of risky securities that were once considered safe. PTI.

Rupee rises sharply against dollar

Good Morning friends, today is Wednesday, September 17, 2008. Day started with routine walk and as we have guest at home, we take breakfast together. Yesterday night I hear news of AIG got support from American Federal Reserve and AIG survive.

We also have good new today. Indian rupee rises sharply against dollar. Here is the news I just read from NDTV Profit website.

Rupee rose sharply on Wednesday after posting its biggest single-day fall on Tuesday, supported by the RBI's move to make rates on deposits by non-residents more attractive.

Rupee was trading at 46.35/37 per dollar, 1.2 percent stronger than 46.89/90 at close on Tuesday when it had fallen to 46.99 during trade, its weakest since July 24, 2006.

Amazing Advani achieves a double

CUP OF JOY: Pankaj Advani added the time format title to his collection with a splendid display.

Pankaj Advani was prolific in the first session while Devendra Joshi was devastating in the next two. However, it was Advani who had the last laugh and achieved a rare ‘double’ yet again.

Advani, who first performed the double in Malta in 2005, capped 10 days of superlative play by adding the time format title to the points format crown in the ONGC IBSF World billiards championship here on Wednesday.

The KSBA hall wore a deserted look when the match commenced and even at the end of the first session, there were just around 100 spectators watching the summit clash. With the news of Advani on a roll spreading, more people started trooping in. And they were treated to a classic contest by Joshi as if on cue.

End of world? Experiment to recreate Big Bang underway

Today is Wednesday, September 10, 2008. Busy day from morning and I was having meeting with Tabala Guru Shree Diviyang Vakil. Back to office and now at 10-00 pm I m reading this news and I like to share here. Its all around talk of town that today is end of world? Read it below.

Scientists from around eighty countries have switched on the most powerful particle accelerator ever built in an attempt to answer some of the biggest unanswered questions about the universe.

The two billion dollar Large Hadron Collider project conducted by the European Organisation for Nuclear Research could help scientists explain mass, gravity, and the mysterious 'dark matter' that fills much of the universe.

Around 200 of the 2,000 scientists doing the experiment are from India.

While no one knows what to expect yet, some researchers have raised concerns saying that the experiment may trigger natural calamities eventually leading to the end of the world.

What's the point of the CERN experiment?

What's the point of the huge CERN experiment is a question non-scientists and some scientists across the world are asking. At one level it's said to be a massive exercise in curiosity because the scientists themselves say they are not sure what they hope to find, not even the questions they should be asking.

What scientists hope to really achieve is create matter. They believe that by re-creating the beginning of the universe they may also create matter as it was created when the universe formed.

The scientific name of the basic particle is Higgs Boson named after Scottish scientist Peter Higgs. But the particle is more commonly called the God Particle since it is considered to be the key to the creation of the universe and it is this key that the scientists hope to re-create.

There have been concerns that the experiment could create anti-matter or black holes but scientists say they are unfounded.

Scientists also hope that the particle will explain gravity, something the current theories of Physics have not explained completely so far.

They are recreating the conditions just before the universe was formed in a large collider which has been cooled to minus 271 degrees centigrade and particles will be made to collide at nearly the speed of light.

The experiment is being conducted in a 27 kilometre long tunnel, 80 metres below the earth's surface. With the experiment, scientists say theoretical Physics is bracing itself for a revolution. The results from the experiment will help scientists see what lies beyond current theories.

Municipal raid in city hookah bars

Good Morning Friends. Today is Tuesday, September 09, 2008. My day start with morning walk at 5-30am. I read this news which makes me happy. Our Municipal Corportaion raided hookah bars in the city. Now a days there is growing trend in the addiction of teenagers to hookah bars. AMC’s this step is really highly appreciated. Such steps are require for the betterment of society and culture.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is going hammer and tongs at illegal hookah bars in the city. After witnessing a growing addiction of teenagers to hookah bars and complaints from parents and different quarters, AMC carried out a massive crackdown on these joints which were run under the garb of restaurants.

Health Committee Chairman Praful Raval said, “We have been regularly receiving complaints from parents about the growing menace of hookah bars in the city. These bars are unhealthy for youngsters and pose serious health problems. It also adds to the nuisance value as certain anti-social elements visit these hookah bars.”

“AMC has already sent the stuff seized from these bars to the municipal laboratory for testing. If needed we will also take the help of Forensic Science Laboratory for chemical analysis of the products used for serving in hookahs,” added Raval.

There are around 15-20 hookah bars in West and New West zones of AMC. The health department has started questioning the unhealthy, dingy, closed and smoke-filled rooms posing major health risks to children.

Hookah bars in Navrangpura, IIM road, Vastrapur, Prahaladnagar garden, Wide Angle and one near the Memnagar fire station were raided on Saturday evening. None of these joints had a proper health license from civic authority essential for running a food joint or restaurant.

A senior AMC official said, “All of these hookah bars were served notice on several occasions and also many have court cases pending against them.”

The municipal officials who conducted the raids on Saturday found that the filter in many of the hookahs was being shared by a group and that the filter was never changed in many of the hookah bars.

“We questioned the restaurant staff since the tumblers in which they serve water is also not properly cleaned. In hookah bars the same filter is used by hundreds. Apart from the harm caused by smoking tobacco, the saliva deposits on these unclean filters pose a serious health hazard for youngsters,” said a senior health official.

Last year too, Ahmedabad Police raided three hookah bars in Panjrapol and Satellite areas of the city. This too was after there was much uproar on minors being allowed to smoke at these bars. At that time, police officials had assured of initiating proper action against these errant hookah joints.
However, soon the drive fizzled out and the hookah bars came back into business. On coordination between police and civic body on this issue, an AMC official said, “We will also ask police authorities to book owners for serving tobacco to minors.”
